Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
